Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday sought approval for 2,305 new mobile towers under the Central Government’s Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN) Scheme to improve digital connectivity in remote and tribal areas of the state. Sai raised the demand during a meeting with Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia at Sanchar Bhawan in New Delhi. The proposed expansion aims to provide high-speed mobile connectivity to some of Chhattisgarh’s most isolated regions, where limited communication infrastructure has affected access to essential services.
According to the state government, improved connectivity would support digital services such as online banking, e-governance facilities, remote healthcare and digital education. During the meeting, Sai also thanked the Centre for approving 577 additional mobile towers for areas affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and other underserved regions. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of expanding communication networks in areas where connectivity gaps have remained a challenge.
The Digital Bharat Nidhi scheme is aimed at supporting telecommunications infrastructure development, particularly in regions where private investment may be limited due to geographical or economic challenges. The proposed mobile towers in Chhattisgarh are expected to strengthen digital access in villages and remote locations across the state. Sai informed the Union Minister that the Chhattisgarh government has accelerated the process of providing land clearances required for Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to ensure faster implementation of connectivity projects.

The state government said administrative support would help speed up the installation of new towers once approvals are received. Connectivity remains a major development priority in remote parts of Chhattisgarh, especially in tribal-dominated areas and regions that have historically faced infrastructure challenges. Improved mobile networks can help residents access government services, financial platforms and educational resources without having to travel long distances.
The expansion of telecom infrastructure is also seen as important for strengthening communication systems in security-sensitive areas. In LWE-affected regions, better connectivity can support administrative outreach and improve coordination for public services. The meeting between Sai and Scindia focused on strengthening the state’s digital infrastructure and expanding access to communication services. The Chief Minister’s request for additional towers reflects Chhattisgarh’s efforts to bridge the digital divide between urban centres and remote communities.
If approved, the proposed 2,305 mobile towers would significantly expand the state’s telecom network coverage and provide greater digital access to underserved populations. The project would also support the broader national objective of increasing connectivity in areas that remain outside reliable communication networks. The Chhattisgarh government is now awaiting further action from the Centre on its proposal. The approval and implementation timeline will determine the pace at which these connectivity improvements reach remote areas across the state.
