A man in Uttar Pradesh has been booked for fraud after allegedly marrying three women over the past six years, subjecting them to dowry harassment, and then abandoning them, police said on Friday. The case came to light after all three women jointly approached the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police to file a complaint.
The accused, identified as Sunil Kumar, is a resident of Jamura Mahi village in Lalitpur district. According to police, Kumar allegedly married each woman while concealing his previous marriages, keeping the women unaware of one another. Babina Station House Officer J. P. Pal said the complaints indicated a deliberate pattern of deception and exploitation.
The three women—Shivani Ahirwar, Rakhi, and Jyoti—told police that Kumar married them in 2019, 2021, and 2023, respectively. They alleged that after a few months of marriage, Kumar would begin demanding dowry in the form of cash and jewelry, followed by harassment and pressure for divorce.

One of the victims, Shivani Ahirwar, a resident of Gopalpura in Babina, alleged that Kumar assaulted her and forced her out of the house while she was pregnant. She is currently living with her one-year-old daughter at her parental home and has claimed that Kumar is now threatening to kill her, police said.
Investigators also revealed that one of the wives had earlier filed a dowry harassment complaint against Kumar at the Jakhaura police station in Lalitpur. Police said Kumar was allegedly planning to marry for a fourth time when the women came together to report the matter.
Based on the complaints, Kumar has been booked in a fraud case, and further legal provisions may be added as the investigation progresses. Police said they are examining all allegations, collecting evidence, and taking steps to ensure appropriate legal action against the accused.
