The United States has reportedly given Ukraine and Russia a June deadline to reach a peace agreement to end the nearly four-year-long war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday. Speaking to reporters, Zelensky added that if the deadline is not met, the Trump administration is expected to apply significant pressure on both sides to ensure progress toward a resolution.
“The Americans are proposing that the parties end the war by the beginning of this summer and will probably put pressure on the parties precisely according to this schedule,” Zelensky stated, emphasizing that the US wants a “clear schedule of all events” leading up to a potential settlement. Zelensky’s comments were embargoed until Saturday morning, highlighting the sensitive nature of the announcement.
The proposed June deadline comes after recent US-brokered trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi failed to produce a breakthrough. Both sides continue to cling to mutually exclusive demands, with Russia insisting that Ukraine withdraw from the Donbas region—a demand Kyiv has consistently rejected, citing sovereignty and territorial integrity concerns. Fighting remains intense in the contested area, making negotiations even more challenging.

Zelensky also revealed that the next round of trilateral talks is likely to take place in the United States, probably in Miami, marking the first time the negotiations will be held on American soil. Ukraine has confirmed its participation in the upcoming discussions. The US is reportedly aiming to leverage its diplomatic influence to accelerate progress and establish a roadmap for ending the conflict.
While the specifics of the peace plan have not been disclosed, Zelensky stressed the urgency of adhering to the proposed timeline. “They say that they want to do everything by June. And they will do everything to end the war,” he said, underlining the administration’s determination to prevent a prolonged stalemate.
The June deadline signals renewed international pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv to find common ground. Analysts note that while past talks have repeatedly stalled over non-negotiable demands, the US involvement and firm timeline could create conditions conducive to meaningful negotiations, though challenges on the ground remain significant.
As the world watches, the coming months are expected to test the resolve of all parties involved, with the June deadline serving as a critical marker for both diplomatic and military developments in the ongoing conflict.
