Rescuers in China were searching on Monday for six people who went missing after a pickup truck carrying 15 passengers fell into a flooded river in the Guangxi region amid heavy rainfall, state broadcaster CCTV reported. The incident has left four people confirmed dead, while emergency teams continue intensive search and rescue operations in difficult weather conditions.According to initial reports, the accident occurred as heavy rains triggered flooding in parts of southwestern China, causing rivers to swell rapidly and increasing the risk of road collapses and vehicle mishaps.
Authorities said the truck lost control and plunged into the overflowing river, highlighting the dangers posed by extreme weather conditions affecting several provinces. The disaster comes as central and eastern China continue to experience widespread downpours, with provinces such as Jiangxi and Hunan also witnessing severe rainfall over the weekend. Weather authorities have warned that additional heavy rains are expected to move eastward and southward over the next few days, further raising flood risks.
The National Meteorological Center has issued alerts cautioning about possible mountain torrents, flooding in small and medium-sized rivers, and urban waterlogging. Officials have urged local administrations to remain on high alert and strengthen emergency response measures as weather conditions remain unstable. In a separate incident in Guangxi, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake also struck on Monday, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents in the city of Liuzhou to evacuate.
