Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Monday used public transport as part of the “Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan” campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging fuel conservation and sustainable commuting amid growing concerns over fuel prices and energy consumption. The campaign follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal urging citizens to reduce fuel usage and adopt environmentally friendly alternatives such as public transport and electric vehicles.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta travelled by Delhi Metro during the campaign and interacted with passengers while promoting the benefits of public transportation. According to officials, the initiative was intended to send a broader message about reducing dependence on private vehicles and supporting cleaner modes of travel. Fellow commuters were also encouraged to consider public transport as a practical and eco-friendly alternative for daily commuting.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, who represents the North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency, also travelled by metro in support of the campaign. Speaking to reporters, Tiwari said the journey allowed him to engage directly with commuters who regularly depend on the metro network for travel across the National Capital Region. He noted that many passengers shared their experiences of walking to nearby stations and frequently commuting between cities such as Gurugram and Noida through the metro system. Tiwari described the interaction as both informative and enjoyable.

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood similarly joined the initiative by taking a metro ride and interacting with passengers about the importance of fuel conservation. During the journey, he appealed to residents to adopt sustainable transportation habits in everyday life. BJP leaders said the effort was designed not only to encourage reduced fuel consumption but also to increase awareness about the long-term environmental benefits of public transit systems.
In a parallel move to support eco-friendly transportation, authorities announced a 50 per cent reduction in parking charges for electric vehicles in Connaught Place. Manoj Tiwari and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Chahal distributed discounted parking passes as part of the awareness drive. Chahal also travelled in an electric auto-rickshaw to Seva Teerth Metro Station, reinforcing the campaign’s focus on promoting cleaner mobility solutions in the capital.
The public outreach initiative comes shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his call on May 11 for citizens to minimise fuel consumption and increase the use of public transport and electric vehicles. The Prime Minister’s remarks were made against the backdrop of disruptions linked to the ongoing West Asia crisis, which has contributed to concerns over energy supplies and fuel-related economic pressures. The BJP leadership has since intensified efforts to promote conservation measures and sustainable transportation practices across Delhi.
