According to court details, Horne introduced the idea of Russian roulette, a lethal game where a single bullet is loaded into a revolver’s cylinder, which is then spun before players take turns pulling the trigger. Horne reportedly emptied the revolver except for one round, first pointing it at his own head and pulling the trigger without incident. He then aimed the weapon at Counts and fired, striking her in the chest. The fatal shot ended the life of the young woman, turning a casual gathering into a scene of irreversible loss.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the Kings Run Court residence around 10:45 p.m. following reports of a shooting, as noted by CBS News. Upon arrival, first responders found Counts suffering from a gunshot wound and attempted to resuscitate her, but their efforts were in vain, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
