AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has attributed the BJP’s electoral dominance to the opposition’s “failure” and its consolidation of nearly 50% of Hindu votes, dismissing claims that his party splits anti-Modi votes.
In a candid interview with PTI on Saturday, the fifth-term Lok Sabha MP rejected accusations of being the BJP’s “B-Team,” arguing that blaming him for the ruling party’s 240 seats in the 2024 elections is unfair. “If I contest in Hyderabad, Aurangabad, Kishanganj, am I responsible?” he questioned.
Owaisi criticized opposition parties, including Congress, SP, and BSP, for taking Muslim votes for granted while neglecting their concerns. “Yadavs, upper castes can be leaders, but Muslims are left as beggars,” he said, highlighting the marginalization of India’s largest minority, which constitutes 15% of the population but holds only 4% of legislative seats.

He blamed this on political parties’ reluctance to field Muslim candidates and voters’ biases, warning that India’s “Viksit Bharat” vision by 2047 is unattainable if Muslims remain sidelined.
The AIMIM leader emphasized the need for Muslims to move beyond being mere voters to becoming active citizens with political representation. “When India’s security is at stake, we stand with the military, but we must also address our community’s issues,” he said, citing education, jobs, and fair treatment as priorities.
Owaisi’s push to expand AIMIM’s footprint beyond Hyderabad has seen success in Bihar and Maharashtra, where his advocacy for Muslim aspirations resonates, despite opposition claims that his campaigns inadvertently aid the BJP.
As India navigates heightened tensions post the April 22 Pahalgam attack, Owaisi’s call for inclusive politics underscores the need for equitable representation to strengthen national unity. His remarks challenge the opposition to rethink their strategy, as the BJP’s grip on power tightens amid their shortcomings.
