In a major crackdown, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized heroin and Yaba tablets valued at Rs 71 crore in two separate operations in Kamrup district’s Amingaon area on Friday, arresting two drivers involved in transporting the narcotics.
The operations targeted vehicles—a truck and a Hyundai car—coming from a neighboring state, suspected to be Manipur, a known corridor for drug smuggling from Myanmar.
Dr. Partha Sarathi Mahanta, STF chief, detailed that 2.7 lakh Yaba tablets, worth Rs 67 crore, were recovered from the truck, while 520 grams of heroin, valued at Rs 4 crore and hidden in 40 soap boxes, was found in the car.

Acting on secret intelligence, the STF intercepted the vehicles, uncovering the drugs concealed in secret compartments. The arrested individuals, whose identities remain undisclosed, face charges under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with further investigations underway to trace the smuggling network.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the STF on X, stating, “2,70,000 YABA tablets seized in Amingaon. Two key peddlers busted. Drugs won’t pass. Not in Assam.” The seizure adds to Assam’s ongoing anti-narcotics efforts, with recent hauls including Rs 20 crore worth of Yaba tablets in Cachar (March 2025) and Rs 115 crore in drugs in Karimganj (August 2024).
