Dr. Salvador Plasencia, charged with illegally supplying ketamine to "Friends" star Matthew Perry, is set to plead guilty today to four counts of distribution in a Los Angeles federal court. The plea, part of an agreement filed last month, drops three additional ketamine distribution charges and two counts of falsifying records, but still carries a potential 40-year prison sentence. Sentencing will occur at a later date, with Plasencia currently free on bond.
Plasencia, 43, allegedly provided Perry with 20 vials of ketamine (100 mg total), lozenges, and syringes between September 30 and October 12, 2023, exploiting the actor’s addiction for profit. Court documents reveal Plasencia texted co-defendant Dr. Mark Chavez, calling Perry a “moron” and discussing how much they could charge him, with one sale netting $4,500. Plasencia also taught Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, to administer the drug, including in a Long Beach aquarium parking lot. Perry, 54, died on October 28, 2023, from a ketamine overdose, with drowning and other factors contributing, per the Los Angeles County medical examiner.
Four of five defendants in the case, including Chavez, Iwamasa, and Erik Fleming, have pleaded guilty, cooperating with prosecutors. Jasveen Sangha, dubbed the “Ketamine Queen,” allegedly supplied the lethal dose and faces trial next month after pleading not guilty. Perry, known for playing Chandler Bing on “Friends,” struggled with addiction throughout his career, seeking ketamine beyond his prescribed depression treatment.
