Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Anil Chauhan’s recent official visit to the United Kingdom has been described as a “landmark moment” in India-UK defence relations by the British High Commission’s Defence Section. The three-day visit included high-level discussions, ministerial meetings, and engagements with defence industry leaders aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between the two nations.
During the visit, CDS General Chauhan held talks with UK Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing emerging global challenges, including cyber threats, technological disruptions, and economic imbalances. The discussions also focused on ensuring a stable and peaceful Indo-Pacific region, which remains a key area of strategic interest for both countries.
The British High Commission stated that this was the first official visit by an Indian CDS to the United Kingdom, marking a significant milestone in bilateral defence ties. It highlighted that the engagement reflects a deepening partnership built on practical cooperation, including joint military exercises, training exchanges, and industrial collaboration aimed at strengthening defence capabilities.

As part of his visit, General Chauhan also interacted with senior UK military officials, government ministers, academics, and think tanks. Representatives from the British defence industry met him to explore opportunities for increased collaboration, with a focus on boosting innovation, creating jobs, and enhancing security outcomes for both nations.
He also visited the Royal College of Defence Studies, where he met participants of international strategic programs designed to train future senior military and government leaders. The visit underscored the importance of leadership development and shared learning in addressing complex global security challenges.
According to official statements, India and the UK are already advancing cooperation under a 10-year Defence Industrial Roadmap. This includes large-scale maritime exercises planned for 2025, embedded Indian instructors in UK military academies, and upcoming deployment of Indian Air Force flying instructors at RAF Valley. Officials said the partnership continues to strengthen through structured dialogue and long-term strategic alignment.
