Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has confirmed an official visit to India in February, marking a key step in strengthening the India-Brazil Strategic Partnership. After his visit to India, President Lula will travel to Washington to meet US President Donald Trump, with dates to be finalized soon.
In a post on X, Lula noted that he spoke with President Trump, and the two leaders agreed to a follow-up meeting after his visits to India and South Korea. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a telephone call from President Lula, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral ties across trade, technology, defence, energy, health, agriculture, and people-to-people exchanges.
According to the External Affairs Ministry, the leaders expressed satisfaction over significant progress in multiple areas of cooperation, including space, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, digital public services, and UPI. They also emphasized the importance of reformed multilateralism in tackling global challenges.

During PM Modi’s visit to Brazil in July 2025, discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade, including the India-MERCOSUR Preferential Trade Agreement, and setting a target to raise trade to $20 billion in the next five years. Energy cooperation, particularly in hydrocarbons and renewable sectors, was also highlighted as a key area for investment and joint projects.
The two leaders explored new avenues of collaboration, including critical minerals, artificial intelligence, supercomputing, digital mobility, and emerging technologies. They also reaffirmed cultural and people-to-people ties, including sporting links, yoga, and traditional medicine initiatives.
Prime Minister Modi additionally thanked Brazil for its solidarity and support following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April 2025, highlighting the depth of bilateral trust and cooperation. President Lula’s upcoming visit is expected to further cement strategic, economic, and technological partnerships between the two nations.
