The West Bengal Police's Special Task Force (STF) has arrested another suspect in connection with an alleged terror module linked to the Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The latest arrest comes as investigators continue probing the activities of Hamim Mondal, who was arrested last week on suspicion of involvement in a terror conspiracy. Police identified the newly arrested accused as Aditya Singh, a college student, making him the third person arrested in the case after Hamim Mondal and Arpita Sarkar.

According to police sources, Aditya Singh was arrested from his residence following leads obtained during the interrogation of the two previously arrested accused. Investigators allege that he was assigned the task of gathering information related to West Bengal minister Umesh Rai's son. Police claim Singh photographed the minister's son, his residence and vehicle before allegedly sharing the images with Hamim Mondal and Arpita Sarkar through an encrypted social media application.

Minister Umesh Rai, who represents the Howrah Uttar constituency, said he had earlier received threat calls after becoming a minister. Reacting to the arrest, Rai alleged that he and his family had been among the targets of the suspected terror network. Police sources further claimed that Aditya Singh was linked to the threatening calls made to the minister and was allegedly involved in a plot to kidnap the minister's son using a honey-trap. These allegations remain under investigation.

Investigators are also examining the wider network allegedly associated with Hamim Mondal. Police said Hamim's father, who is currently absconding, had rented accommodation in Howrah's Pilkhana Market area where Hamim is believed to have stayed. Authorities are probing possible foreign funding, including suspected cryptocurrency transactions, and are examining whether financial support originated from outside India as part of the alleged conspiracy.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also joined the investigation and is questioning Hamim Mondal and Arpita Sarkar to determine the extent of the alleged network. According to investigative sources, mobile phones seized from the accused reportedly revealed regular contact with suspected handlers based in Pakistan. Officials are also investigating alleged plans to target political leaders and examining possible routes that could have been used for smuggling weapons into India. These claims are part of the ongoing investigation and have not yet been tested in court.

The arrest of Aditya Singh marks the third arrest in four days in the case, with both the West Bengal STF and Kolkata Police continuing coordinated operations. Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing and that all leads, including alleged terror links, funding channels and possible wider conspiracies, are being thoroughly examined. No court has yet determined the guilt of the accused, and the allegations remain subject to further investigation and judicial proceedings.
