Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. During the meeting, President Murmu highlighted the deep historical, cultural and civilisational links shared by India and Uzbekistan, noting that the relationship is rooted in ancient trade routes. The two leaders agreed that the visit presents an opportunity to identify new avenues of cooperation and further deepen the strategic partnership.
According to the President's Secretariat, the discussions focused on expanding collaboration across multiple sectors of mutual interest. Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing their mutually beneficial partnership through greater engagement in areas that contribute to long-term economic growth and regional connectivity. The meeting reflects the continued momentum in India-Uzbekistan relations as both countries seek to broaden cooperation beyond traditional sectors.
Earlier in the day, Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich arrived in New Delhi on an official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations. Welcoming the visiting minister, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal described the visit as an important step in advancing ties between the two nations. During his stay, the Uzbek Foreign Minister is scheduled to hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and participate in a business forum to promote greater economic and commercial engagement between Indian and Uzbek businesses.

The visit comes as India and Uzbekistan continue to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including trade, investment, technology, energy, education and connectivity. Both countries have steadily expanded their strategic partnership in recent years through high-level political exchanges, growing business ties and collaboration on regional and international issues. The business forum is also expected to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen commercial partnerships between the two countries.
Ahead of the visit, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar held a telephonic conversation with Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich on July 20, during which the two leaders discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and maintaining regular dialogue. The Uzbek Foreign Minister described the conversation as substantive, noting that both sides reviewed upcoming high-level engagements and exchanged views on strengthening coordination in international organisations. He also reiterated the commitment of both foreign ministries to continue close, trust-based and regular engagement to further advance the India-Uzbekistan strategic partnership.
