In a brazen crime that has stunned Mumbai, a woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the Government Railway Police (GRP) and two men posing as cops were arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 10.5 lakh from a businessman at Bandra Terminus on Monday, September 1, 2025. The incident, which unfolded in a busy railway station, has led to the suspension of the Bandra railway police station’s senior inspector, raising serious questions about police integrity.
The victim, Vikas Gupta, a garment businessman from Malad, was lured to the station by Zahir Ahmed, a resident of Andheri, under the pretext of a lucrative deal to import electronic items. Gupta arrived with Rs 10.5 lakh in cash, only to be confronted by two men, Nilesh Kalsulkar (45) and Pravin Shukla (32), who impersonated police officers. The duo questioned Gupta about the bag he was carrying, claiming to investigate suspicious activity. Intimidated by their threats, Gupta, who explained he was traveling to Gujarat to purchase garments, was caught off guard as the imposters fled with his cash-filled bag.
Distraught, Gupta promptly filed a complaint at the Bandra railway police station. Using CCTV footage and technical analysis, police swiftly apprehended Kalsulkar and Shukla on Tuesday. Further investigation uncovered the shocking involvement of Vijaya Ingawale, an ASI posted at the same station, who was subsequently arrested. The trio now faces charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for impersonating a public servant, criminal conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust.

As the investigation continues, authorities are probing the extent of the conspiracy and whether others were involved in this audacious heist at one of Mumbai’s busiest transport hubs.
