Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district have booked four people after a viral video showed a dramatic and dangerous stunt involving a crane-suspended vehicle during a Muharram procession in Badnagar town. The incident, which occurred on the night of June 23, has triggered a police investigation amid concerns over public safety violations during the religious procession.
According to officials, a Tata Magic vehicle was lifted nearly 40 feet above the ground using a crane while two youths stood on top of it waving red flags as part of the procession activity. Moments later, the vehicle reportedly burst open in a sudden, explosion-like incident that shocked spectators and quickly spread across social media platforms after videos went viral.
Additional Superintendent of Police Karandeep Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against four individuals, including procession organiser Shoaib Khan, participants Talim Khan and Zahid Khan, and crane owner Gopal Mali. He stated that while permission had been granted for the procession itself, no approval was given for any activity involving explosives or risky stunts involving vehicles.

Preliminary findings suggest that the incident may not have involved conventional explosives. Instead, investigators believe that multiple festival-style rockets were ignited simultaneously inside or around the vehicle. With the windows closed, pressure is believed to have built up inside, leading to the glass and body panels bursting outward and creating an explosion-like effect.
Police have indicated that the act may have been intended as a crowd-pulling stunt, but stressed that it violated safety norms and posed serious risks to public life. Authorities are now examining whether organisers breached conditions attached to the procession permit and whether additional charges may be added under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Officials have also urged the public not to spread unverified claims while the investigation continues. The incident has sparked debate over safety standards during large religious processions, particularly regarding the use of vehicles, props, and potentially hazardous demonstrations in crowded public spaces.
