A tragic two-car collision at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout in Essex, south-east England, has claimed the lives of two Telangana students, Chaitanya Tarre, 23, and Rishi Teja Rapolu, 21, with five others sustaining serious injuries, Essex Police reported.
The accident occurred early Monday on the A130, a major dual carriageway. Chaitanya Tarre died at the scene, while Rishi Teja Rapolu succumbed to his injuries in hospital shortly after. The group was reportedly returning from a Ganesh Visarjan celebration.
Essex Police arrested two men from Barking, aged 23 and 24, who were driving the vehicles involved, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Both have been released on bail until November 20 as investigations continue. The police are appealing for public assistance, requesting any CCTV, dash cam, or other footage related to the incident.

“Sadly, one man died at the scene while another died in hospital. Specialist officers are supporting their families. Five other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries,” Essex Police stated.
The National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK expressed profound grief over the loss. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Essex, UK, involving nine students from the Telugu community,” their statement read. “The accident has claimed the precious lives of Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu. Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and loved ones.”
NISAU UK noted that several other students remain under urgent medical care and extended prayers for their recovery. The organization is collaborating with the Telangana community and consular authorities to provide support to those affected.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the Indian student community in the UK, highlighting the need for road safety awareness. As investigations proceed, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families and the recovery of the injured.
