In a major crackdown, Thane police and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials raided a gym trainer’s premises in Wagle Estate on Tuesday night, seizing 290 bottles of banned Mephentermine Sulphate injections valued at ₹1,07,604. The 32-year-old trainer was allegedly selling the Schedule H drug, which requires a prescription, to bodybuilders for its performance-enhancing effects.
Senior Inspector Salil Bhosle stated that Mephentermine Sulphate, typically used to regulate blood pressure in medical settings, is dangerous when misused without supervision. “This drug is harmful to human health if used without medical oversight and is being abused by bodybuilders for its stimulant properties,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed the injections were illegally imported and sold without medical authorization. The trainer was detained, and an FIR was filed under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for endangering lives, alongside provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Authorities are probing further to uncover the supply chain behind this illicit operation.
