A harrowing incident at Banasthali Vidyapeeth, a women-only university in Tonk, Rajasthan, has left a first-year MBA student hospitalized after she jumped from her hostel building’s parapet on July 22, 2025. A viral video shows the student from Haryana, appearing disoriented in a college corridor before climbing the parapet and leaping off, despite other students’ panicked screams. Her parents, who enrolled her on July 17, filed an FIR alleging she was harassed, ragged, and given drugs mixed in a cold drink and cake during a hostel celebration, leading to her suicide attempt.
The FIR claims the student was beaten, blackmailed with a recorded video, and mentally destabilized by fellow students. Her parents assert she was healthy upon joining, as confirmed by a medical check-up, and informed them of the drugging incident via a distress call. They accused the college and hostel administration of ignoring their complaints to the warden. The incident has drawn widespread attention on social media, amplifying concerns about campus safety at the prestigious university, founded in 1935 to provide modern, culturally rooted education for women.
Kota’s district collector, Kalpana Aggarwal, tasked by the state human rights commission, promised a thorough investigation. Police inspector Ramji Lal Verma suggested ragging by senior students as a likely cause. Banasthali Vidyapeeth, a deemed university since 1983, has not yet responded to the allegations. The case has sparked calls for stricter anti-ragging measures and accountability, with the district administration probing all angles to address the grave accusations.
