A 23-year-old woman who claimed she was sexually assaulted and jumped off a moving MMTS train in Hyderabad to escape has been found to have fabricated the story, railway police revealed on Friday.
The woman, a food delivery worker from Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, residing in Medchal, fell from the train on March 23, 2025, while filming an Instagram reel, according to Superintendent of Police (Railways) Chandana Deepti.
The incident occurred on the Tellapur-Medchal MMTS train near Kompally. Initially, the woman alleged she leapt from the ladies’ coach to evade a man in his mid-20s who attempted to assault her after other passengers disembarked at Alwal station.

Found injured near a railway bridge by passersby, she was rushed to Gandhi Hospital and later transferred to Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad, with severe head injuries. Her claim prompted a high-profile investigation, with Union Ministers Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay visiting her, and opposition leaders criticizing railway security.
However, after reviewing footage from 300 CCTV cameras along the 28-km route and questioning 120 suspects, police found no evidence of an assailant. Under intensive questioning, the woman confessed to accidentally falling while shooting a reel on her phone, fabricating the assault to mislead investigators.
No charges have been specified against her yet, but the case has sparked debate about false allegations and social media stunts, with some users decrying the misuse of serious claims. The police are set to issue a detailed statement soon.
