A shocking incident rocked Bollywood as unknown assailants opened fire outside actor Disha Patani’s ancestral home in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, in the early hours of Friday, with the notorious Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang claiming responsibility. The attack, which targeted Villa No. 40 in Civil Lines, occurred around 4:30 AM, with two motorbike-borne attackers firing 10-12 rounds, including two aerial shots, before fleeing. No injuries were reported, but the incident has sent ripples of fear through the film industry.
In a chilling Facebook post, gang member Virendra Charan, alongside Mahendra Saran, claimed the shooting was a “trailer” in retaliation for alleged insults by Disha Patani and her sister Khushboo Patani against Hindu spiritual leaders Premanand Maharaj and Aniruddhacharya Maharaj. The post read, “She insulted our revered saints and tried to demean our Sanatan Dharma. This was just a trailer. Next time, if she or anyone else shows disrespect towards our religion, no one in their house will be left alive.” The gang extended the threat to the entire film industry, warning, “This message is for all artists and those associated with them. We are ready to go to any extent to protect our religion.”
The attack stems from a controversy involving Khushboo Patani, a former Indian Army major, who criticized Aniruddhacharya’s remarks on live-in relationships in July, which were later falsely linked to Premanand Maharaj online. This sparked outrage among certain groups, allegedly fueling the attack. Disha, who was in Mumbai at the time, was not present, but her father, retired DSP Jagdish Singh Patani, mother Padma, and sister Khushboo were home, left shaken but unharmed.

Bareilly police, led by Senior Superintendent Anurag Arya, have launched a robust response, forming five investigative teams and transferring the case to the crime branch. “We recovered multiple empty cartridges and are reviewing CCTV footage,” Arya told reporters, adding that alerts have been issued regarding Goldy Brar’s network. Security has been tightened around the Patani residence, with armed police deployed to ensure the family’s safety.
The incident follows a similar attack last month on YouTuber Elvish Yadav’s home in Gurugram, where one suspect was arrested. Authorities suspect the Bareilly attackers conducted prior reconnaissance, entering and exiting via the Delhi-Lucknow highway within minutes. As the investigation intensifies, the attack has raised alarm about rising threats to public figures, with the film industry on edge over the gang’s ominous warning.
