In a jaw-dropping twist to a heated child custody case, the Supreme Court of India has issued a stern warning to a mother after her 12-year-old daughter demanded a staggering Rs 1 crore from her father to live with him. The shocking incident, which also saw the girl allegedly attack her father with a stick, has sparked outrage and concern from Chief Justice BR Gavai, who cautioned the mother against “spoiling her child’s mind.”
The case stems from a bitter matrimonial dispute between the parents. Senior Advocate PR Patwalia, representing the father, revealed that a district court had granted custody to the father, but the mother has refused to comply, with the matter now pending in the high court. The father’s contempt petition was dismissed by the high court, prompting him to escalate the case to the Supreme Court.
In a stunning revelation, Patwalia shared that the girl not only refused to stay with her father but also accused him of harassing her mother by filing a contempt case. “She said, ‘You give Rs 1 crore, otherwise I won’t go,’” Patwalia told the bench, led by Chief Justice Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran. Adding fuel to the fire, the mother had allegedly removed the father’s name from the child’s school records.

Chief Justice Gavai didn’t hold back, warning the mother, “You’re dragging your child into this mess and ruining her future. This will come back to haunt you.” The court noted the girl’s earlier act of violence against her father, raising alarms about the influence being exerted on her.
With both sides agreeing to mediation, the Supreme Court appointed former Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice Ritu Bahri as the mediator to resolve the escalating dispute. “We hope mediation will address all issues between the parties,” the court stated, emphasizing a resolution that prioritizes the child’s well-being.
This sensational case highlights the messy complexities of custody battles and raises questions about parental influence on young minds. As the mediation process begins, all eyes are on whether this fractured family can find common ground—or if the drama will deepen.
