In a major crackdown on illegal narcotics, Assam Police seized 50 bags of cannabis, weighing approximately 50 kilograms, from a vehicle in Cachar district on Friday. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.
The operation, driven by precise intelligence, saw police intercept a vehicle originating from a neighboring state. The haul, discovered during a thorough search, marks another victory in Assam’s ongoing battle against drug trafficking. “Stride against drugs continues. Two people have been arrested, who will experience a different high now. Kudos @assampolice,” Sarma posted on X, commending the police force.
The market value of the confiscated cannabis is still under evaluation, and legal proceedings have been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, which bans cannabis in India except for limited medical, scientific, or traditional uses like ‘bhang.’ The arrests underscore Assam’s aggressive stance on curbing the illegal drug trade, with authorities vowing to maintain pressure on traffickers.
