INDIA bloc MPs, including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and TMC’s Abhishek Banerjee, staged a fiery protest at Parliament’s Makar Dwar on Friday, decrying the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls. The opposition alleges the SIR is a covert scheme to rig polls, branding it “Silent Invisible Rigging” and “vote theft.”
For the 13th consecutive day, MPs from Congress, DMK, and Left parties rallied, wielding placards reading “Stop SIR” and “Our Vote. Our Right. Our Fight.” The protest skipped only Monday due to the passing of former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren.
The opposition claims the SIR aims to disenfranchise Bihar voters ahead of the state’s upcoming assembly elections. They’ve demanded a rollback of the revision and a parliamentary discussion, causing a near-total logjam in both Houses since the Monsoon session began on July 21. Apart from debates on Operation Sindoor, repeated adjournments over the SIR issue have stalled parliamentary business.
