In a stunning victory for India's security forces, Suleiman Shah, the notorious mastermind behind the devastating April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 innocent lives, was gunned down in a high-stakes encounter near Srinagar. The operation, dubbed Operation Mahadev, unfolded in the early hours of Monday, July 28, 2025, in the Mulnar area of Harwan, as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed Parliament on the Operation Sindoor debate.
Suleiman Shah, a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and former Pakistan Army soldier also known as Hashim Moosa, was among three terrorists neutralized in the joint operation conducted by the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The other two, identified as Abu Hamza and Yasir, were also high-value foreign nationals linked to the deadly attack in Pahalgam’s scenic Baisaran Valley. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had previously announced a Rs 20 lakh reward for information leading to Suleiman’s capture, underscoring his significance as a target.
Acting on precise intelligence, security forces launched Operation Mahadev in Lidwas, engaging the terrorists in an intense firefight. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the operation’s success via its official X account, stating, “Three terrorists neutralized in an intense firefight. Operation Continues.” Reinforcements have been deployed, and a thorough combing operation is underway to ensure no threats remain in the area.
