A shocking daylight murder unfolded outside a gym in Sector 9 when a local realtor was shot dead by helmeted assailants on a scooter, firing multiple rounds in under 20 seconds. The brazen attack occurred around 1 PM on Wednesday near Madhya Marg, a bustling area close to the Chandigarh Police Headquarters and UT Secretariat.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing 8-12 gunshots as the victim sat in his black Toyota Fortuner after a workout. The gunmen, one wearing a red T-shirt and full-face helmet, targeted the vehicle with ruthless precision before fleeing the scene.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old property dealer Chamanpreet Singh (also known as Chini Kubaheri or Preet Nagra), a resident of Mullanpur in nearby Mohali district, sustained fatal wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16 but succumbed during treatment. CCTV footage captured the 20-second ordeal, showing the realtor's body jerking from the bullets before he attempted to escape.

This killing comes amid reports of prior extortion threats against Singh from the Bambiha gang, demanding Rs 50 lakh, which he had reported to police days earlier. Gangster Lucky Patial claimed responsibility via social media, though authorities are yet to verify the post. Singh also faced multiple FIRs, including one for attempted murder, and was involved in property disputes.
Police have launched a manhunt, analyzing CCTV from the high-security zone and collecting forensic evidence. The incident, just 24 hours after firing at Panjab University, has heightened fears over rising gang violence in the region. Sector 9's proximity to key institutions underscores concerns about law and order in Chandigarh's heart.
Residents expressed shock at the audacity of the attack in broad daylight amid heavy traffic and crowds. Authorities have increased patrols, but the motive—extortion, rivalry, or gang warfare—remains under investigation as the city reels from this latest outburst of organized crime.
