In a major drug bust, the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police in Maharashtra’s Thane district seized nearly 15 kg of cocaine, valued at over Rs 22 crore, and arrested three individuals, including two foreign nationals, on April 15. The operation, triggered by a tip-off, has exposed a significant drug trafficking network, with authorities anticipating further arrests as investigations continue.
The crackdown began with the arrest of Shabina Nazeer Shaikh (42), from whom police recovered 11.8 kg of cocaine worth Rs 17.74 crore, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal. Shaikh’s interrogation led police to a Nigerian national, Andy Ubabudike Onyinse (45), residing in Mira Road East. A subsequent raid resulted in his arrest and the seizure of 2.608 kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 3.9 crore.
Further questioning of Onyinse pointed to a third suspect, Christabel Enjei (32), a Cameroon national living in Vasai East. Police arrested her and recovered 433.2 grams of cocaine worth Rs 64.98 lakh. Additionally, authorities seized Rs 2.84 lakh in foreign currency and Indian rupees from the suspects, said Senior Inspector Pramod Badakh of Crime Branch Unit–I, Kashimira.
