A heated land dispute in Ahivipur village, Prayagraj, turned deadly late Sunday night when Lalji alias Bahraich Yadav, intoxicated by alcohol, allegedly killed his 25-year-old son, Vinod Kumar Yadav, with an axe, police reported.
The tragic incident, stemming from a disagreement over a prior land sale, has shocked the local community. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ganga Nagar) Pushkar Verma stated that Lalji, known for alcohol addiction, clashed with Vinod during an argument. In a fit of rage, Lalji struck his son with an axe, causing instant death.
The village head alerted authorities on Monday morning, prompting a swift response from the Soraon SHO and area ACP, who inspected the crime scene and detained Lalji for questioning. Preliminary investigations confirmed Lalji had sold the disputed land earlier, fueling the fatal confrontation. The police have sent Vinod’s body for post-mortem and are awaiting a formal complaint from the family to proceed with legal action.

The case, registered under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, underscores recurring issues of alcohol-fueled violence and land disputes in rural Uttar Pradesh. Authorities are probing further to ascertain additional motives or involvement, as the village mourns the loss of a young life in this preventable tragedy.
