Two men, Khurshid Shah and Munab Ali, were arrested after a dramatic police encounter in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district, linked to a hit-and-run that killed an e-rickshaw driver and injured four passengers. The incident, which authorities allege was intentional, has shocked the rural Baruwadih village under Bariyarpur police station.
Circle Officer (Salempur) Deepak Shukla reported that on July 31, 2025, a pickup truck deliberately rammed into an e-rickshaw near Baruwadih, killing the driver instantly and leaving four others critically injured. The suspects, Shah from Kushinagar, UP, and Ali from Gopalganj, Bihar, were apprehended at the scene. A case was filed under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder).
Late Thursday night, during a police inspection of the suspect’s vehicle, Shah and Ali allegedly attempted to flee, pulling out hidden country-made pistols and firing at officers. In retaliatory fire, both sustained leg injuries and were rushed to Deoria’s district hospital, where they remain under guard. Recovered weapons included two pistols and live cartridges, Shukla confirmed.
