The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the death of a NEET aspirant in Patna, Bihar, and conducted searches at the residence of a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer as part of its investigation, officials said on Monday. The development comes amid rising public anger and intensified scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.

The aspirant, identified in earlier reports as a young candidate preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), was found dead under circumstances that triggered widespread concern over alleged foul play and possible harassment linked to examination or coaching matters. The Bihar government referred the case to the CBI following protests and demands for an impartial inquiry.

Investigators executed searches at the public servant’s residence after obtaining necessary authorisations, seeking evidence related to the case. Law enforcement sources indicated that the former IPS officer’s name had surfaced during preliminary inquiries, prompting the probe agency to examine documents, electronic devices, and other material that might assist in establishing links to the aspirant’s death.

Authorities have not formally named any accused at this stage, and the search operation was described by officials as part of evidence-gathering rather than an arrest.
