The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of fugitive Mohammad Navas Kakkat Ismail from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), bringing an Interpol Red Notice subject back to India in connection with a major organised crime case, officials said on Monday.
According to authorities, Ismail was wanted by the Delhi Police in a case involving extortion, cheating, criminal misappropriation, forgery, impersonation, and participation in an organised crime syndicate. He is alleged to be a key conspirator in a racket that targeted victims by impersonating government officials to extract money through fraud and intimidation.
The extradition was carried out after coordinated efforts between Indian law enforcement agencies and international policing bodies. Acting on a request from the Delhi Police, the CBI facilitated the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice against Ismail, enabling global tracking mechanisms to be activated for his location and detention.

Officials stated that Ismail was subsequently “geo-located” and arrested by UAE authorities following the Red Notice alert. After completion of legal formalities, India submitted an extradition request, which was approved by UAE authorities after sustained diplomatic and investigative follow-up between the two countries.
Ismail was brought to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sunday, where he was taken into custody by Delhi Police upon arrival. His return marks the culmination of a cross-border investigation that involved multiple agencies working through Interpol channels to ensure his transfer to India.
The CBI spokesperson noted that over 150 wanted fugitives have been brought back to India in recent years through coordinated international policing efforts. Officials said such extraditions reflect growing cooperation between India and foreign jurisdictions in tackling transnational crime networks and ensuring that accused individuals cannot evade justice by fleeing abroad.
