In a major anti-drug operation, Punjab Police’s Anti-Narcotics Task Force (Border Range), in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF), seized nearly 20 kg of heroin and arrested four individuals involved in the smuggling network, officials said on Tuesday. The operation targeted cross-border narcotics being trafficked from Pakistan into Punjab.
The arrested have been identified as Sahibjit Singh alias Sahib, Rajwinder Singh alias Golu, Ashu Sharma alias Ashu, and a 17-year-old juvenile, all residents of Amritsar. The key operative, Sahib, is believed to have been coordinating the delivery and distribution of heroin consignments across the region.
Along with the narcotics, authorities impounded a car and two motorcycles used by the accused to transport the contraband. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were linked to Pakistan-based handlers and played a critical role in managing the local supply chain.

The seizure came after a tip-off regarding the accused retrieving a heroin consignment smuggled via drone near the border. Acting on this information, the joint police-BSF team laid a strategic checkpoint and intercepted the accused along with the vehicle used in the operation.
A subsequent search in Ghogga, under Bhindi Saidan police jurisdiction in Amritsar district, led to the recovery of 19.980 kg of heroin, packed in five separate packets, from agricultural fields near Bhindi Aulakh village. Authorities registered a First Information Report under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act on January 6.
Police investigations are ongoing to identify cross-border handlers, trace supply routes, and dismantle the broader narcotics network. Officials emphasized that operations like these are crucial to curb the rising influx of illegal drugs and ensure regional security.
