A catastrophic incident unfolded in Jaipur on Monday when an allegedly intoxicated dumper truck driver lost control on Lohamandi Road, initiating a devastating five-kilometre rampage that claimed ten lives and left approximately fifty individuals with severe injuries. The heavy vehicle collided with multiple oncoming cars and motorcycles, dragging several for considerable distances before finally halting amid a scene of widespread destruction and mangled wreckage.
Eyewitness accounts described the driver exhibiting clear signs of inebriation, persisting in acceleration despite repeated impacts that crushed vehicles and trapped occupants beneath debris. The ordeal concluded only after a final collision immobilised the truck, prompting immediate deployment of rescue teams and police to extricate survivors and recover bodies from the chaos-strewn highway.
All injured persons were promptly transported to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment, while authorities initiated identification procedures for the deceased. The driver has been taken into custody, with medical examinations underway to substantiate alcohol consumption levels and establish legal accountability under relevant traffic and criminal statutes.

This tragedy follows closely on a separate fatal collision in Phalodi the previous day, where a tempo traveller carrying devotees struck a stationary trailer, resulting in fifteen deaths and two injuries among pilgrims returning from religious observances. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma conveyed profound grief and instructed officials to extend comprehensive support to affected families alongside ensuring optimal care for the wounded.
As investigations proceed into both incidents, heightened scrutiny falls on enforcement of road safety protocols, particularly regarding commercial vehicle operators and alcohol impairment. The consecutive accidents underscore persistent vulnerabilities in Rajasthan’s transportation network, compelling immediate policy reviews to prevent recurrence of such preventable loss of life.
