The Amritsar Commissionerate Police, in a meticulously planned intelligence-led operation, dismantled a sophisticated cross-border arms and hawala network, apprehending three key operatives involved in the illegal supply of weapons. The operation, announced by Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, led to the recovery of ten advanced firearms and Rs 2.5 lakh in hawala money, marking a significant blow to organized crime in the region.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the arrested individuals were communicating with Pakistan-based handlers through social media platforms to procure and distribute illegal weapons, with the intent to disrupt peace and harmony in Punjab. “The arrested accused were in contact with Pakistan-based handlers via social media to procure and circulate illegal weapons,” DGP Yadav stated in a post on X, highlighting the gravity of the operation.
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Police Station Gate Hakima in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the network and its cross-border linkages. This decisive action by the Punjab Police underscores their commitment to curbing illegal arms trafficking and maintaining public safety in the state.
