In a startling crackdown, West Bengal police arrested two Bangladeshi nationals for illegally residing in India with fake identity documents. A 28-year-old woman from Kolkata’s Golf Green area was detained by Park Street Police Station officers in a forgery case, while another individual was apprehended in Canning, South 24 Parganas, for living in India for 15-16 years under a false identity.
Authorities seized multiple Bangladeshi passports, along with fraudulent Indian documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and ration cards, from the woman. The man, originally from Satkhira, Bangladesh, had allegedly secured a place on India’s electoral roll using forged documents. “We are investigating how he entered India and obtained these fake identities,” a police official said.
The arrests have sparked a deeper probe into the network behind the creation and use of these counterfeit documents.
