A daring highway robbery unfolded late Saturday night on National Highway-44 in Sagar district, where four armed men attacked a truck carrying an Amazon e-commerce shipment, assaulting the crew and looting goods worth potentially crores. The incident, occurring near Silarpur village at the Charguwan trijunction within Gaurjhamar police station limits, has raised alarm over the safety of logistics operations in Madhya Pradesh.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Lokesh Sinha, the robbers capitalized on slowed traffic due to underbridge construction on the Sagar-Narsinghpur road. They forcibly boarded the truck, en route from Gurugram to Nagpur, and subjected driver Dilchan Patel and the crew to a brutal assault, holding them hostage at gunpoint. The gang then drove the vehicle to Mungwani village, where they transferred the consignment to another vehicle and escaped.
Following Patel’s complaint, police registered a case against unidentified assailants under charges of robbery and criminal intimidation, launching an immediate investigation. “A search is underway to apprehend the robbers,” Sinha stated, noting that the value of the stolen goods is yet to be determined by Amazon.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and vehicle details to track the culprits, amid growing calls for enhanced security measures to protect high-value e-commerce shipments on India’s highways.
