Punjab Police have registered a case against a village sarpanch and five others for allegedly setting fire to the belongings of two Dalit families in Tarn Taran district. The accused, identified as Baldev Singh Gora, is the brother-in-law of Manjinder Singh Lalpura, a legislator from the Aam Aadmi Party. The incident has drawn attention due to its serious nature and the political connection of the main आरोपी.
According to the complaint filed with the police, the incident occurred in Veinpuri village, where Gora allegedly arrived at the victims’ homes following a dispute and set their belongings on fire by pouring petrol. The affected families, belonging to the Dalit community, reported significant damage to their property, prompting immediate intervention by local authorities.
Police officials confirmed that a case has been registered at Goindwal Sahib police station under relevant sections of the law. Statements of the victim families have been recorded, and an investigation is currently underway to establish the sequence of events and determine accountability. Authorities have named six individuals in the case, including the sarpanch.

Senior officials, including SP (Headquarters) Sukhmanninder Singh and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, visited the village to assess the situation and interact with the affected families. Their visit aimed to ensure that law and order was maintained and that the victims received necessary support following the incident.
The case has sparked concern over the safety and security of marginalized communities in rural areas, particularly in instances involving alleged targeted violence. Officials have assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, and that no individual will be spared if found guilty.
