India made two debut decisions in the second T20I against Ireland on Sunday, handing maiden international caps to Prince Yadav and Suryansh Shedge, while 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was once again left out of the playing XI despite being in the squad. The match comes with India trailing 0–1 in the two-match series after a 34-run defeat in the opening game.
India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first, citing weather conditions and the possibility of rain interruptions. He said the team wanted to make the most of overcast conditions and improve their adaptability after failing to chase effectively in the first T20I. Iyer also acknowledged Ireland’s tactical awareness in the previous match and stressed the importance of playing “smart cricket” rather than relying on fixed patterns.
The spotlight ahead of the match had been on the team selection, particularly the continued omission of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who had drawn attention since being included in the squad for the Ireland tour. However, team management opted for experience and balance in conditions, instead giving opportunities to Suryansh Shedge and Prince Yadav as India made two changes to the XI.

Iyer described Suryansh Shedge as a “powerful, destructive batter,” highlighting his performances in domestic cricket, the Indian Premier League, and youth-level tournaments. He also praised Shedge’s consistency on A tours and said his inclusion was a reward for sustained performances. Meanwhile, debutant Prince Yadav was introduced with caution, with the captain emphasizing that he should focus on gaining experience rather than facing immediate pressure in his first international outing.
The confirmed India XI included Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Tilak Varma, Shivam Dube, Suryansh Shedge, Axar Patel, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Prince Yadav. Ireland, led by Lorcan Tucker, fielded a competitive side featuring Harry Tector, George Dockrell, and other key players as they aimed to seal the series.
