Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has directed a reduction in the number of vehicles used in official convoys and appealed for greater fuel conservation across the state administration, in line with broader calls for responsible energy use amid global economic uncertainty.
According to the directive issued on Tuesday, the Chief Minister has ordered that unnecessary vehicles should not be included in his official convoy, with instructions that security arrangements be streamlined to avoid excessive fuel consumption. The move is aimed at ensuring administrative efficiency while promoting austerity in government transport usage.
The guidelines have also been extended to senior officials and public representatives across Rajasthan. All departments have been asked to limit vehicle usage, reduce non-essential travel, and adopt more economical practices in the use of government transport. The directive has been circulated to top administrative authorities, including the Chief Secretary and other senior officers.

The decision comes in the context of a wider national push for fuel conservation, following recent appeals by Prime Minister Narendra Modi encouraging reduced dependence on petrol and diesel, increased use of public transport, metro systems, carpooling, rail freight, and electric vehicles. The Prime Minister has also urged citizens to adopt lifestyle changes aimed at conserving energy and reducing import dependence.
Officials said the measures are also intended to align with efforts to manage economic pressures linked to volatile global crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions affecting energy markets. The administration has emphasised that responsible fuel usage is essential for reducing financial strain and improving long-term sustainability in governance.
The move is being viewed as part of a broader austerity drive within state governance, reflecting an attempt to encourage resource efficiency and set an example for public institutions. Further directives on implementation and compliance are expected to be issued to departments in the coming weeks.
