Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) announced on Tuesday that it has secured two major contracts totaling Rs 2,566 crore from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation Limited (PMRCL) for Phase I of the Patna Metro Rail Project. The awards, valued at Rs 1,418.3 crore for Package PC-05 and Rs 1,147.51 crore for Package PC-06, underscore HCC's expertise in urban infrastructure and signal accelerated development for Bihar's capital, where rapid urbanization demands efficient public transport solutions.
The contracts focus on constructing 10.67 km of underground tunnels using advanced Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and six key metro stations along the Danapur-Khemnichak Corridor. Package PC-05 entails the design and execution of twin tunnels via shield TBM, a cut-and-cover tunnel, an underground ramp at Mithapur, and three stations: Vikas Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan, and Patna Station.
Complementing this, Package PC-06 covers an underground ramp at Rukanpura and stations at Rukanpura, Raja Bazar, and Patna Zoo. Both packages include comprehensive architectural finishing, water supply, sanitary, and drainage systems to ensure seamless integration and operational readiness.
Launched in 2019, the Patna Metro project aims to alleviate traffic congestion in the city of over 2 million residents, with Phase I spanning 17.82 km across two corridors at an estimated cost of Rs 13,365 crore. The initiative, funded by the central and state governments, is expected to be operational by 2028, enhancing connectivity between key areas like Danapur and Khemnichak while promoting sustainable mobility. HCC's involvement leverages cutting-edge TBM technology, proven effective in minimizing surface disruptions in densely populated zones.
