Delhi Police have arrested two men, including 22-year-old accountant Subhash Chand, for orchestrating a fake Rs 13 lakh robbery in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar area, an official confirmed on Friday. Chand, the complainant and mastermind, conspired with his friend Vijaypal, 26, from Mahendergarh, Haryana, to stage the heist to alleviate financial strain from gambling losses.
On July 3, 2025, Chand reported to Moti Nagar police that six unidentified men on three bikes attacked him on a flyover, stabbed him, and fled with Rs 13 lakh he had withdrawn from a bank for his employer, a trading firm where he had worked for two years. However, CCTV footage revealed no suspicious activity or bikes trailing Chand, and his alleged stab wounds were superficial, raising doubts about his story.
Under sustained interrogation, Chand confessed to fabricating the robbery. He admitted to handing the cash to Vijaypal at Rajouri Garden Metro Station, intending to retrieve it later. Vijaypal fled on a Rapido bike taxi to Dhaula Kuan and then took a bus to his village, Bayal, in Mahendergarh. A police team swiftly recovered the entire Rs 13 lakh from Vijaypal’s residence, and both men were arrested.

Chand’s motive stemmed from a Rs 30 lakh gambling debt, prompting him to misappropriate his company’s funds. The case was cracked within 10 hours, showcasing the West District Police’s efficiency. Further investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved. This incident follows a separate Delhi Police operation on July 3, where two sharpshooters linked to a gang murder were arrested after an encounter in Shahbad Dairy.
