In a major boost to India’s indigenous aerospace ambitions, the Adani Group and global aircraft manufacturer Embraer have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop an integrated regional transport aircraft (RTA) ecosystem in the country. The collaboration aims to strengthen India’s aircraft manufacturing capabilities while supporting the government’s push for self-reliance in defence and civil aviation.
Under the proposed partnership, Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace will explore opportunities across aircraft manufacturing, supply chain development, aftermarket services, and pilot training. A key component of the plan involves setting up an aircraft assembly line in India, followed by a phased increase in indigenisation to support India’s Regional Transport Aircraft programme. The initiative aligns closely with the Centre’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.
Embraer, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of regional jets and military transport aircraft, brings deep engineering expertise and decades of experience in aircraft design and production. The company already has a growing footprint in India, with several of its commercial and defence platforms operating in the country. Through this partnership, Embraer aims to further integrate India into its global manufacturing and supply chain network.

Adani Defence & Aerospace, meanwhile, is expected to leverage its expanding aviation value-chain presence, including infrastructure, defence manufacturing, and MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) capabilities. The group has been steadily increasing its role in India’s defence and aerospace sectors, positioning itself as a key private-sector partner in advanced manufacturing and strategic technologies.
Officials familiar with the development said the collaboration could significantly enhance India’s ability to design, build, and sustain regional transport aircraft domestically, reducing dependence on imports. The programme is also expected to generate skilled employment, foster technology transfer, and support the growth of a robust ecosystem of Indian MSMEs in aerospace manufacturing.
The MoU comes at a time when India is seeking to expand regional air connectivity and modernise its aviation infrastructure, while also strengthening its defence manufacturing base. If translated into a full-scale programme, the Adani–Embraer partnership could mark an important step toward establishing India as a regional hub for aircraft manufacturing and aerospace services.
