A Reddit user’s post describing a move from Mumbai to Delhi NCR as a “massive lifestyle upgrade” has sparked a lively debate on social media, with many weighing in on the cost-of-living and quality-of-life differences between India’s two biggest metropolitan regions.
In the viral post, the user, a bachelor earning around ₹1.4 lakh per month, said they were surprised by how much their living standards improved after relocating. In Mumbai, they said they paid nearly ₹40,000 in rent for a “decent” one-bedroom apartment but never felt the comfort matched the price.
After shifting to Delhi NCR, the user said they found a one-bedroom apartment in the ₹20,000–25,000 range, which felt like a significant upgrade in terms of space and overall quality. The Redditor added that the wider roads, easier commuting, and comparatively lower daily expenses contributed to a better lifestyle.

The post also highlighted a jump in monthly savings. While the user claimed they were saving around ₹40,000–50,000 a month in Mumbai, the move to Delhi reportedly allowed them to save close to ₹75,000, even while living more comfortably. The Delhi Metro was also praised for its extensive connectivity and convenience.
As the post gained traction, many users echoed similar experiences, agreeing that Delhi offered better housing value and space than Mumbai. Several commenters pointed to affordable house help, healthcare, and larger residential societies as advantages of living in the capital region.
However, even supporters of the Redditor’s view acknowledged drawbacks. While many described Delhi as “miles better” in terms of lifestyle and affordability, several users said air pollution remained the city’s biggest downside, preventing it from being a clear winner over Mumbai.
