A bomb threat email sent to the District and Sessions Court in SAS Nagar, Mohali, triggered a major security alert on Wednesday, forcing authorities to suspend normal court operations and launch extensive search and sanitization drives across judicial complexes in Mohali, Kharar, and Dera Bassi. The threat prompted immediate action from court authorities and law enforcement agencies, who moved swiftly to secure the premises and prevent any potential risk to public safety.
According to official sources, the email, received on June 1, warned of a possible bomb blast at judicial court complexes between June 3 and June 5. In response, the district and sessions judge issued emergency directives imposing strict security measures throughout the SAS Nagar Sessions Division. The order emphasized precautionary steps aimed at ensuring the safety of judicial officers, court staff, litigants, and visitors while the threat was being assessed.
Authorities restricted public access to all affected court complexes and allowed entry only to litigants and accused persons scheduled to appear before the courts. Security personnel stationed at entry gates were instructed to conduct detailed checks of every individual entering the premises. The restrictions significantly reduced movement within the court compounds as officials worked to verify the credibility of the threat.

Following the alert, Mohali Police, supported by bomb detection and disposal squads as well as other security agencies, launched comprehensive search operations across the three judicial complexes. Teams conducted systematic inspections of court buildings, parking areas, offices, and public spaces. Judicial work was largely disrupted during the operation as authorities prioritized safety and security over routine proceedings.
Superintendent of Police City Dilpreet Singh said that no one would be permitted to enter the premises until the entire area had been thoroughly checked and declared safe. He noted that similar threat emails received in the past had ultimately proven to be hoaxes. However, he stressed that police were treating the latest warning with complete seriousness and were following established security protocols without taking any chances.
Judicial officers, personal security officers, court employees, and support staff have also been directed to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious object, package, or activity. As of the filing of the report, no explosive material or suspicious item had been recovered from any of the court complexes. Nevertheless, officials stated that investigations and security checks would continue until all concerns related to the threat had been fully addressed.
