Jamshedpur in Jharkhand launched eastern India’s first gas-based pet crematorium on Saturday, a Tata Steel-funded project near Jubilee Park’s dog kennel. Reflecting Ratan Tata’s deep love for dogs, which spurred animal welfare in Tata Group’s CSR, the facility offers pet owners a dignified, eco-friendly farewell.
Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) Chanakya Chaudhary said it ensures a “safe, hygienic, and environmentally responsible” disposal of remains. Priced at Rs 3,000, it accommodates pets up to 50 kg, using affordable PNG fuel. Jamshedpur Kennel Club president Ruchi Narendran hailed it as a regional first, aimed at honoring pets respectfully. Ratan Tata’s legacy of fostering dog care—evident in initiatives like Mumbai’s pet hospital—lives on here, blending compassion with sustainability.
This crematorium underscores Tata’s commitment to animal welfare, providing a meaningful service for pet lovers across eastern India.
