Latin pop star Shakira performed a massive free concert on Rio’s iconic Copacabana beach on Saturday, drawing an estimated crowd of around two million people. The show, staged outside the Copacabana Palace Hotel under a full moon, is being described as one of the biggest performances of her career. Authorities and organizers had prepared extensively for the large-scale public event.
The concert began more than an hour late, but anticipation among fans remained high as Shakira finally took the stage. The performance featured large-scale production elements, including drones forming the image of a she-wolf in the sky, a symbol closely associated with the singer. The beach setting, already known for hosting mega concerts, was packed with fans stretching across the shoreline.
Copacabana beach has become a landmark venue for global music spectacles in recent years. Madonna reportedly drew about 1.6 million fans in 2024, while Lady Gaga performed for over two million people the following year. Shakira’s show adds to this growing legacy of record-breaking free concerts, reinforcing Rio’s status as a major destination for large-scale live entertainment events.

Ahead of the main performance, fans were treated to a special rehearsal that included appearances by Brazilian music legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethania. During the rehearsal segment, Shakira performed “O Leaozinho” alongside Veloso, highlighting a blend of international pop and Brazilian musical tradition. The collaboration added a cultural dimension to the event ahead of the official concert.
Fans from across Latin America and beyond traveled to Rio for the show, with some camping overnight on the beach to secure viewing spots. Superfans described long journeys and years of admiration for the artist, whose music and performances have built a global following. Vendors along Copacabana sold merchandise, drinks, and themed items inspired by her ongoing tour, reflecting the commercial energy surrounding the event.
Security measures were significantly heightened, with nearly 8,000 officers deployed along with drones, facial recognition systems, and multiple screening checkpoints. Officials also projected a major economic boost for the city, estimating more than $160 million in local impact, with tourism and airline bookings reportedly rising sharply. The concert further strengthens Shakira’s global touring success, marking what is likely to be one of the largest audiences of her career.
