The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has called for a boycott of Turkish shows on streaming platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and JioHotstar, citing Turkiye’s support for Pakistan amid tensions with India.
In a Thursday statement, FWICE, representing 36 crafts in India’s media industry, expressed “serious concern” over the streaming of Turkish content, arguing it undermines India’s sovereignty, particularly on Kashmir.
“Turkey has consistently extended diplomatic support to Pakistan on matters detrimental to India’s national interest,” FWICE stated, urging the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting to restrict Turkish shows and films on OTT platforms.

Such a move, it said, would “send a strong message globally” and boost Indian content, supporting the domestic workforce. Popular Turkish dramas like Binbir Gece, As the Crow Flies, and Ethos have been widely consumed in India since the early 2000s.
The call follows Turkiye’s criticism of India’s Operation Sindoor, a May 7 strike on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, retaliating for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people.
Pakistan’s use of Turkish drones in the conflict further fueled outrage. FWICE’s move aligns with broader boycotts, including CAIT’s trade embargo and EaseMyTrip’s travel advisories against Turkiye, reflecting national sentiment against Turkiye’s stance.
The boycott push underscores India’s resolve to counter foreign support for Pakistan, prioritizing national interest over cultural imports, with FWICE urging swift ministerial action.
