Actor Anupam Kher described meeting his Silver Linings Playbook co-star Robert De Niro at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival as the “most amazing feeling.”

De Niro, honored with the Palme d’Or for Lifetime Achievement on May 13, met Kher, his wife Tiffany, and daughter Gia, leaving Kher deeply touched by their warmth. Kher, who is directing Tanvi The Great, shared the reunion on Instagram, calling De Niro the “greatest actor of all times.”

In a heartfelt note, Kher wrote, “Best hug from the greatest actor… Their love and affection touched me deeply.” \

He showed De Niro the first poster of Tanvi The Great, which the Hollywood icon appreciated, and introduced his film’s crew to De Niro. “Thank you dearest Mr. De Niro for your love, warmth, that wonderful hug, the delicious lunch and your infectious BRILLIANCE,” Kher added, praising Tiffany’s hospitality and video recording.

Tanvi The Great, Kher’s second directorial venture after 2002’s Om Jai Jagadish, will screen at the Cannes Market on Sunday.

The festival, running until May 24, celebrates global cinema, with De Niro’s accolade highlighting his legendary career. Kher’s post underscored their bond, stating, “Having you as a friend is the biggest blessing.” The reunion, set against Cannes’ prestigious backdrop, reflects Kher’s admiration for De Niro’s artistry and their shared cinematic journey.
