Mohanlal’s highly anticipated ‘L2: Empuraan’ may face a release delay due to Lyca Productions’ ongoing financial troubles. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, the sequel to ‘Lucifer’ has been one of the most awaited films in the Malayalam industry, with fans eagerly looking forward to its March 27, 2025 release. However, reports suggest that Lyca Productions' financial struggles could impact the film’s schedule.
The hype surrounding ‘L2: Empuraan’ has been immense, further amplified by the daily character introductions leading up to February 26. The film, a high-budget venture, saw Aashirvad Cinemas—producers of ‘Lucifer’—collaborate with Lyca Productions to bring the sequel to life. However, Lyca has been struggling financially after recent box office disappointments like ‘Vidaamuyarchi’ and ‘Indian 2’, while ‘Indian 3’’s financial capabilities is uncertain. Mounting debts have put the studio in a precarious position, with financiers urging them to clear dues before ‘L2: Empuraan’ releases.
According to ‘Telugu 360’, this financial strain has led to uncertainty about the film’s timely release. Rumors suggest that Aashirvad Cinemas is considering parting ways with Lyca Productions to take over the project independently. Adding to the uncertainty, the film’s post-theatrical rights are yet to be sold, further complicating its release plans.
While no official confirmation has been made, fans may have to brace for a possible delay. Whether ‘L2: Empuraan’ can stick to its original schedule or face setbacks remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Prithviraj is also preparing for other acting projects. He wrote recently in a social media along with a photo of himself sporting a simple thick moustache: “Finish and hand over film and all marketing assets on your directorial (Check). Get into appearance for your next as an actor (Check). Realise you have long monologues in a language that’s not native to you and start becoming nervous (Check).”
