The acclaimed Tamil coming-of-age drama Bad Girl, directed by debutante filmmaker Varsha Bharath, is set to hit theaters in Hindi on September 26, 2025. Presented by renowned filmmakers Vetrimaaran and Anurag Kashyap and distributed by Flip Films, the film stars Anjali Sivaraman as Ramya, a teenage girl navigating love, lust, and societal expectations in Chennai.
Anurag Kashyap praised Bharath’s vision, stating, “When I first read it, it reminded me of how, as a young filmmaker, I wanted to tell bold stories. Varsha has gone beyond all my expectations and made an excellent film. We’re happy to release it in Hindi, as it’s a story that will resonate with every girl growing up in the country.” The film, which won the prestigious NETPAC award at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, marks Bharath’s feature directorial debut.
Bharath emphasized the film’s intent to challenge societal norms, saying, “Through Bad Girl, I wanted to question the very idea of labels and how easily they are used to diminish women. Directing this as my debut has been both liberating and daunting, but having Anurag Kashyap and Vetrimaaran’s support is a rare privilege.” She expressed excitement about the film reaching Hindi audiences, hoping it connects deeply with viewers.

Anjali Sivaraman, who plays Ramya, shared, “The role pushed me to confront questions about identity, freedom, and the judgments women face daily. It’s rare to portray a character who is unapologetically herself, and I hope viewers see a bit of themselves in her journey.” The film also features Shanthipriya and boasts a soundtrack by acclaimed composer Amit Trivedi.
With its bold narrative and universal themes, Bad Girl is poised to make a significant impact, offering a fresh perspective on identity and empowerment for audiences across India.
