Will Smith is set to drop his first album in two decades, Based on a True Story, on March 28, marking a musical comeback after 2005’s Lost and Found. The Hollywood star announced the 14-track project on Instagram, teasing fans with promotional photos and a tracklist featuring singles like “First Love,” “Beautiful Scars,” “TANTRUM,” “Work of Art,” and “You Can Make It.” Collaborations include DJ Jazzy Jeff, Teyana Taylor, and Jac Ross.
“Been working on this project for a minute and I’m itchin’ to get it out to y’all,” Smith wrote, hinting at a deeply personal creative journey. In January, he revealed that the album emerged from a “well of understanding of art and pain” unlocked after the 2022 Oscars incident.
“A whole world woke up inside that I didn’t even know was there—dreams, visions, parts of my inner landscape,” he said, describing a newfound urge to musically explore joy, spirituality, and resilience inspired by his churchgoing youth.
Smith’s recent social media activity reflects his lighter side too. On March 11, he celebrated ‘National Napping Day’ with a family photo featuring wife Jada Pinkett Smith, children Willow (24) and Jaden (26), ex-wife Sheree Zampino, and son Trey (32). “Someone say it was National Napping Day?” he captioned the relaxed moment. Fans now await an album that promises to blend his signature imagination with a raw, reflective edge.
